Another Year in Paradise!!

November 2004

My daughter and I headed south for the Baja 1000.   It ran from Ensenada, south from San Felipe, through Puertecitos and down the peninsula ending in La Paz.  There is road work around the Walmart/Sams Club area in Mexicali.....depending on the time of day it may be less congested to come in the Truck Crossing to avoid the delays.
We actually were in the race as we dashed toward Puertecitos!  We gave way to several quads and motorcylces....Got to the Cowpatty just in time for a cold one and to watch the first trophy truck come through.  There was a great crowd at the Cowpatty and it was good to visit so many old friends and make acquaintance with some new ones.
Benjamin's daughter Lizbeth celebrated her Quincenera--it was a very windy evening but the party went on!!!
Sara from the conasupo was in town as were her brothers and sister Xochitl---we had to do a quick fix on her cut finger so she would be ready for the big party!!!
The new clinic is becoming a reality!   Clara has hired a new chef for the restaurant.  Enjoyed a nice breakfast with the Chili Man and Carol, Art and Sara  and Panama.   We celebrated Carol and Sara's birthday.....
The road is really rough the last 20 miles or so...I keep hearing that the crews will finish all the way to Puertecitos this spring but we've been to that dance before.
Visited with Pete and Olivia from Huerfenito while they were in San Diego this fall.  Always great to spend time with them.
We took the baja bug and drove out toward Shell Canyon.  The recent rains have moved the desert around and we couldn't get the larger vehicles through the path to get there.....may have to take a crew out to move some rocks later on this winter.
Happy Holidays to all and we hope to see you south soon!!!

AUGUST 2004

The weather was pleasantly cooler than I expected.  The road crews have been busy but seem to have come to a stop at Dr. Lopez's clinic.  Puertecitos was very quiet with just a few in town.  San Felipe was very enjoyable.  Had a nice time with the Coles and Kalish famiy at dinner at the Baja Mar.  The Miramar was cool and it was fun to visit with Colorado.  I was sad to learn that Alfonso Frias Ortiz passed away this summer.  He had been my cantinero and friend for many years.  The border crossings were uneventful.....

MAY 2004

FELIZ CINCO DE MAYO!!!!

Dad and I had a wonderful trip on his Birthday in March.  Enjoyed a full day in the desert communicating with departed souls and marvelling at our scenic "back yard".  Always plenty of cold beer and hot dogs at the Cowpatty and good to see the community still enjoys our little wayspot in the desert.

Rumor control....the Cowpatty is still open with no plans of closing.  There's some growing pains with Campo Serena while the kids get things straightened out after Gordo's death but it looks like everybody will make it thorugh ok.  Mari has her hands full with the girls in Tecate and running the camp but she's doing a great job.  The girls are in school and growing up!  She and Jose are still plannig a wedding date sometime in the future.

Muchas Gracias to Sr. Marschke, Jay and Richard for helping with our generator problem while we were there.

I'll be visiting camp throughout the summer and keeping you updated.

See you next season!!!

Hasta Luego
